Together Francis and Dolores Schanen acquired the Flying S Ranch in 1958. Incorporating a ranch with an airplane runway, Francis enjoyed his love of planes and Dolores enjoyed her love of horses.

With their son Bobby at their side, Francis and Dolores successfully raised and trained Grand Champion Quarter Horses throughout the 1960's and 1970's.

In the 1980's the focus of the business moved from showing horses to providing excellent care to boarded horses. Using the surrounding farmland, Francis and his son Bobby built over two miles of fencing, constructed the interiors of their boarding facility and made many other improvements. Each year, they harvested thousands of bales of homegrown hay and provided excellent care to the horses residing at Flying S Ranch.

Dolores passed away in 2005, and her son Bobby passed away in 2010. Both Dolores and Bobby’s keen insight in raising and caring for horses will never be forgotten and will always be appreciated by family and Flying S Ranch patrons.

Flying S Ranch is now owned by Holly Schanen. Her late husband Bobby’s love can be seen throughout the ranch. She now runs a successful lesson, training, boarding, and summer camp program. She and her son Josey welcome you to visit their ranch.
